Founded by Paul Connolly, a seasoned broadcast journalist, television and radio presenter, and renowned media trainer, The Broadcast Institute draws on decades of experience at the sharpest edge of global media.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, Paul is best known for his fearless crime documentaries and daring undercover operations that have exposed criminal gangs in cities and towns across Ireland and the UK.
Paul’s acclaimed work has aired on leading platforms such as Channel 5, ITV (Tonight), Netflix, Facebook Watch, Discovery Channel, BBC Worldwide, Sky History, Nine Network Australia, Virgin Media One, and many more. His deep experience in investigative reporting and storytelling shapes every aspect of our training.

Meet James Scurry
James Scurry is a Strategic Communications Specialist and veteran Sky News Senior Producer with two decades of experience across television, radio, digital, and print journalism.
Over the past 20 years, James has worked at the sharpest edge of global news, covering the world’s biggest stories including two Royal Weddings, the Brexit referendum, the Arab Spring and Libyan revolution, the rise of the Islamic State, wars in Syria, Yemen, Ukraine and Israel–Gaza, U.S. and European elections, and the death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. At Sky News, he has held senior editorial roles that helped the channel secure “News Channel of the Year” for eight consecutive years at the Royal Television Society Journalism Awards.
As a communications consultant, James helps organisations distil their vision, mission, and strategic objectives into clear, compelling messaging across digital platforms and legacy media. He has advised clients in the UK, U.S., and the Middle East, designing strategies that build clarity, influence, and measurable impact. His expertise spans audience mapping, digital storytelling, corporate video and podcast production, and crisis communications training.
James has trained authors, a TEDx NHS speaker, CEOs, and industry leaders, equipping them with the skills to communicate with confidence on stage, on camera, and online. His feedback is renowned for its precision, practicality, and impact, helping clients refine their tone, structure, and storytelling to achieve their strategic goals.
